Service Description

This Middle School reading and writing class will foster the ability to craft an effective literary analysis essay from the ground up! Literary analysis is a vital stage in the development of students’ critical thinking skills. From learning to annotate literature to writing complete literary analysis essays, this course presents an introduction to analyzing literature. Topics such as theme, irony, characterization, plot and conflict, symbolism, imagery, and more are discussed and explored using a variety of middle school level literature. This course uses literature from the Civil Right Movement and is designed to be paired with our social studies class that covers the same time period. About the Instructor: Mrs. Obbink is a full-time teacher in grades 3-6. She has experience in teaching reading and writing to gifted and talented students in 5th and 6th grades and has worked in both public and private schools in New York. She has been teaching critical reading for Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) and holds a master's degree in Education from Concordia University. If a course does not meet your expectations, Boluo School will refund the remaining tuition before the second class. However, notice must be given within the first week of starting a course.
