Service Description

This advanced reading and writing workshop is to prepare students for the rigorous reading and writing in high school. This course focuses on reinforcing writing fundamentals at the high school level requirement, including sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization, subject-verb agreement, paragraph structure, self-editing, and proofreading. This workshop will also introduce critical reading that allows students to strengthen their reading comprehension skills at a higher level that matches their maturity. This course uses literature from the Great Depression and is designed to be paired with our social studies class that covers the same time period. Students will be reading the book Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. About the instructor: Ms. Courtney is a passionate and experienced writer and former English teacher. During her time as an English instructor, her students scored significantly higher than their peers on standardized tests. Additionally, she has experience tutoring ACT/SAT and college essay writing. She is a passionate writer herself and has published a number of articles and is currently writing a book. Dates: 6/15-7/15 Day: Thursdays Time: 7-7:55 EST | 4-4:55 PST
